Chapter Four

Jessica’s heart pounded a furious rhythm as she boldly claimed the mouth of Garrett Stone. The pink note drifted to the floor, joining the envelope dropped earlier. Excitement swept through her, a twisting heat that coiled in the pit of her stomach.

The kiss started as a series of brief, shy meetings. The brush of lips, the soft intake of breath, the slow return to taste … to touch … to tempt. Garrett’s hands rested on her waist, his fingers feathered on her hips, and she enchained his neck with her arms, pressing against him as his mouth worshipped hers.

“Jessica,” he whispered. It was half-plea, half-sigh.

She didn’t answer with words. To tell him she forgave him was too difficult, but this, the hard press of their bodies, to gentle ministering of his lips, this should handle. She dipped her tongue at each corner of his mouth, slowly tracing its seam. She licked the plump flesh, nibbling just a little on his bottom lip until he moaned. His lips parted, and she swiped her tongue against his. He tasted like mint chocolate. Oh God. The man tasted like chocolate!

Pure lust zapped her.

She deepened the kiss, appreciating the way Garrett allowed her to make the moves. He reciprocated the pleasures of meshing mouth and tongue only after she initiated each sensual action. The faint whiff of his cologne reminded her of winter in the mountains: the cold tang of snow, the sharp scent of pine trees, and the cedar-tinged smoke curling from stone chimneys.

Twining her fingers into his hair, she drew him closer still, and ravished his mouth, giving in to every sensual whim. She suckled his bottom lip again, tucking it between her teeth for a gentle bite. Then she thrust her tongue inside his mouth to savor the sweetness of him. She delighted in his tightened grip, in the low sound of his need.

Desire seared her as she planted small kisses on his chin and his jaw … until she was drawn back to the heat of his mouth. This kiss was a long, hot duel of tongues, lips, teeth. She felt the slide of his hands to her rear end, the press of his hard-on in the vee of her thighs … oh God.

They broke apart, panting and dazed, and stared at each other.

“Wow,” she said.

“I second that.”

“You taste like chocolate.”

“Your favorite,” he said. He reached into the front pocket of his tuxedo coat and showed her a few green foil-wrapped rectangles. “I’m somewhat of a chocolate addict, too,” he admitted.

“My, my, my. Isn’t this delicious?” asked a cultured female voice.

Jessica whirled around, and she felt Garrett’s warm hands on her shoulders. For a split second, her backside met his muscled chest, and then he shoved her behind him. She looked over his shoulder at the tall, thin woman who stood not two feet away assessing them the same way a researcher might evaluate lab rats.

Her long black hair was worn straight, pulled into a sexy ponytail on the top of her head.
